In addition to attending to the struggles that families often encounter within the home, at The Lighthouse, in Schaumburg, Illinois, we recognize that over the years, the traditional family structure has changed, and thus family counseling must change along with it.
Beyond just needing a dual household income to survive financially in these times, families are struggling with the multiple dynamics occurring in today’s American family. Blended families have become the major family structure in this country and children often have to adapt to multiple households and different parenting styles. Grandparents can also add stress within a family especially if they are struggling with long term care concerns. To complicate matters, kids are also under more pressure to succeed than they ever have been in the past.
It is more common than not that today’s children are often diagnosed with disorders such as ADHD, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depression and spectrum disorders. These factors can complicate and add to the stress of everyday life, making the job of parenting even more challenging.
At The Lighthouse, we pride ourselves on the services we are able to offer children and families struggling with these challenging issues. It is our belief that “it takes a village” to raise a successful family and we do our part to provide the support of a “village” necessary for you and your family to create the happy and healthy relationships you desire.
It is our philosophy that each family member seeking support at The Lighthouse would work with their own counselor, one of the elements of a model that we created called Family Synergy Counseling. This model was developed from the Couples Synergy model that The Lighthouse’s founders, Dr Ray & Rev Jean Kadkhodaian, developed in working with couples. Both models of therapy emphasize the need for each member of the family system to have their own advocate in the counseling process. This creates a safer environment in order to share their own perspective and feel validated without fear of judgment. Combined structured work with family members would involve all therapists as well, providing a more objective approach to changing dysfunctional patterns within the family system. In addition, education and implementing new skills are key components of the Family Synergy model.
Families that we have helped have expressed their gratitude for the positive changes that have transformed their homes into more peaceful environments with healthy communication, less conflict, more structure and boundaries that respect each member of the family. Our goal will always remain the same, and that is to help you and your family create happy, healthy and loving relationships with one another.
