Do you suffer from Anxiety? Does the Holiday Season make it worse? Here are some top tips for dealing with Anxiety during the Holidays.
1. Lower the “Perfect Holiday” Bar
Social media and traditions can create pressure to make everything magical. Give yourself permission to do “good enough.” Memories come from connection, not perfection.
2. Set Clear (and Kind) Boundaries
It’s okay to say:
“We’ll stay for an hour.”
“We’re keeping gifts simple this year.”
“I can’t take that on right now.”
Boundaries protect your energy—and reduce resentment.
3. Plan in Small, Manageable Pieces
Break tasks into bite-sized steps. A short to-do list feels less overwhelming than trying to “handle everything.”
4. Keep a Grounding Routine
Even during busy days, anchor yourself with:
Morning or evening breathing (3–5 minutes)
A daily walk
A consistent bedtime
Routine signals safety to your nervous system.
5. Limit Overstimulation
Too many events, too much noise, or constant togetherness can heighten anxiety. Build in quiet breaks—even 10 minutes alone helps reset.
6. Watch Your Inner Dialogue
Notice “should” thoughts:
“I should be happier.”
“I should be more grateful.”
Replace them with:
“This is a lot, and I’m doing my best.”
“My feelings are valid.”
7. Manage Family Triggers Strategically
You don’t have to win every conversation. Prepare neutral responses and change topics when needed. Protecting peace matters more than being right.
8. Be Mindful with Alcohol, Sugar & Caffeine
These can increase anxiety and disrupt sleep. Enjoy in moderation and balance with water, protein, and rest.
9. Stay Connected to Support
Talk it out—whether with a friend, therapist, or support group. Anxiety thrives in isolation; it eases when shared.
10. Redefine What the Holidays Mean This Year
This season doesn’t have to look like past ones. It can be quieter, simpler, or different—and still meaningful.
